Nietzsche and Voltaire: About the dedication of Human All Too Human

Jelson Roberto de Oliveira

Abstract

In this article we intend to demonstrate how Voltaire’s name is associated with the nerve center of the Nietzschean proposal in Human All Too Human: the search for a way of philosophizing characterized by freedom of spirit and, more specifically, the concept of “free spirit”, which features a cross-cutting interest of Nietzsche by the author of the Essays. Nietzsche appropriates Voltaire as a symbol of the Enlightenment, in search of a reinterpretation that makes possible the resumption of the project Alfklärung’s on other levels.

Key words: free spirit, Nietzsche, Voltaire, Enlightenment.
