The Doctorate in Administration is a great opportunity to continue advancing the knowledge obtained in the Master course. It allows the development of a critical sense about the phenomena of administration/management, which can be used both in the day-to-day practice in companies, as well as in research, teaching, training or consultancy. Administration is an applied and interdisciplinary science and that is why the Doctorate course is open to interested people who have graduated or mastered in different areas. Emphasis: Organizations and Competitiveness

We have an area of ​​concentration, Organizations and Competitiveness, which follows an interdisciplinary approach and covers different sub-areas of Administration. The focus is on investigating factors that make organizations and companies competitive. It constitutes the central theme to which the two lines of research are linked, i.e. Organizational Strategies and Interorganizational Relations.

Lines of action

Area of study “Competitiveness and Inter-Organizational Relations” investigates management in complex interaction systems among organizations that establish individual and collective competitive advantages in industrial and service sectors. The main fields of knowledge approached by this area refer to (1) interorganizational relations, (2) innovation (3) technological management and organizational competitiveness, in a perspective that integrates findings from related areas, such as Economics, Sociology and Psychology.


“Organizational Strategies” looks both into the company external and internal environments, combining interests in terms of market positioning, strategic choices, and resources management. The main fields of knowledge approached by this area refer to (1) international business; (2) strategy in services; (3) sustainability; (4) market, consumption, and acquisition studies; (5) structuring and organization of resources and competences.

Alsones Balestrin is Professor at the Unisinos Business School at the UNISINOS University (Brazil) and Invited Professor at the Management Institute, Poitiers University (France). He earned his Ph.D. in Management from Federal University (Brazil) and PhD in Information and Communication Science from Poitiers University (France). His research interests are related to cooperative strategy, inter-organizational networks, knowledge creation and collaborative innovation. His work has been published in several English and Portuguese written journals like Journal of Knowledge Management, The Journal of Management and Governance, International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Small Business, International Journal of Management Practice, Journal of Technology Management & Innovation, among others.

Holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration and a Doctor’s degree in Psychology. Has published several academic articles, focusing in the last five years in topics related to knowledge and creativity-based enterprises. Supervisor of about 40 graduate students on their Doctor and Master final dissertations. Associate Dean at the Graduate Program of Business Administration at Unisinos University (2010 - 2012) and Dean of the Unisinos Business School (2012 - 2017),leading international accreditation process and enhancement of entrepreneurship ecosystem at Unisinos University.
